Member of the Month: Margie Tulley

This month, we are delighted to feature longtime Irish Setter lover and ISCSC member Margie Tulley.

Margie was born and raised in Paramount, California, to her parents, Larry and Irene Wilson. In July 1975, at the age of 22, she married her husband, Peter. Margie and Peter have now been married for 51 years and have lived in Cypress for approximately 20 years.

Margie’s love of Irish Setters began around the same time she and Peter were married, when she got her first Irish Setter, Lady Cynthia, affectionately known as Cindy. Margie and Peter also shared another interest during those early years: motorcycles. From 1974 through 1981, Margie rode her own motorcycles alongside Peter.

Their family grew with the arrival of their daughter, Colleen, followed two years later by their son, Andrew.

Colleen, now 44, lives in Las Vegas with her husband and has worked in the online gaming industry for approximately 20 years.

Andrew, 42, earned a degree in early childhood education and previously worked with the Long Beach YMCA and at the YMCA Big Bear Summer Camp. About five years ago, he moved to Mammoth, where he works as a ski lift operator during the winter. He was honored with the Black Diamond Award for going above and beyond to help his coworkers and skiers. During the summer months, Andrew lives in Lake Tahoe and works at Stanford’s summer camp.

A Life With Setters

Irish Setters have been an important part of Margie’s life for more than 50 years. After Cindy, Margie and her family had an English Setter named Marya, followed by Irish Setters Lily Pad and Bella Rose.

And now there is a new addition to the Tulley household.

Meet BB Bonnie Brown

This year, Margie and Peter welcomed their new puppy, BB Bonnie Brown. BB was born March 27, 2026, in Honeyville, Utah, and came to Margie from a breeder in Utah.

The trip home included a special stop in Las Vegas so Colleen could meet her new little sister. They also celebrated Colleen’s birthday with dinner at the Lazy Dog Cafe before Margie and Bonnie continued their journey home to California.

Margie and Peter are thoroughly enjoying life with their new puppy. BB has already developed quite a personality. Her best friend is a Husky, and she loves spending time playing with him. She also gets along wonderfully with the family cat.

Margie describes BB as incredibly smart. She even makes up games on her own and has quickly shown that she has a mind of her own. BB is also quite the talker, making sure Margie and Peter know exactly what she has to say.

After more than five decades with Setters, Margie’s enthusiasm for the breed continues with BB. We look forward to watching this young Irish Setter grow and hearing about the adventures she and Margie will share in the years ahead.

Bonnie has quickly become a much-loved member of the Tulley household. She is smart, playful, quite the talker, and enjoys making up games of her own. One of her favorite companions is a Husky friend she loves to play with.

Setters have not been the only four-legged members of the Tulley family. Margie and Peter have always had cats alongside their dogs. Their 14-year-old cat, Willow, was trained by Bella Rose and has apparently decided it is now her responsibility to help train Bonnie!

Beyond the Dogs

Margie has plenty of interests outside the dog world. Every spring, from March through May, she works at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale, where she enjoys teaching needle arts and embroidery.

Through all of Margie’s hobbies, activities, dogs and adventures, Peter has been there supporting her. Margie says she is fortunate to have a husband who encourages all of her many interests.

Margie also enjoys working at dog shows alongside her fellow members of the Irish Setter Club of Southern California.

In Margie’s words, “It is a great club that supports each other.”

We are fortunate to have Margie as part of ISCSC and loved learning more about the family, dogs, hobbies, and adventures that have filled her life.
