About the Irish Setter Club of Southern California
Since 1929, the Irish Setter Club of Southern California has brought together people who share a love for this extraordinary breed. From our earliest beginnings with three Irish Setter enthusiasts to the generations of members and dogs who have followed, ISCSC has built a proud tradition of friendship, participation and dedication to the Irish Setter.
Our History
The Irish Setter Club of Southern California began in 1929 when three Irish Setter owners, primarily interested in field activities, came together to form ISCSC.
By 1932, the club had grown to 30 members and held its first breed show in the City of Compton, with an entry of 35 Irish Setters.
The club continued to expand its activities over the following decades. Our first obedience trial was held in 1954 at Lakewood Country Club in Long Beach. In March 1957, ISCSC held its first field trial at Prado Dam, followed in 1961 by a field trial in Arlington that was open to all pointing breeds.
On June 4, 2011, ISCSC celebrated another important milestone with our 100th Specialty Show, drawing 73 dogs in conformation, eight in obedience and 11 in rally.
Our Love of the Irish Setter
For many of our members, Irish Setters have been part of our lives and families for generations. Those of us who have loved more than one know that no two are ever quite alike. Each has a personality entirely their own, along with the intelligence, affection, humor and unmistakable spirit that make this breed so special.
Our Irish Setters may join us in the show ring, compete in obedience, rally, field and other activities, or simply share our homes and our everyday lives. Whatever their accomplishments, they are first and foremost beloved members of our families.
It is that shared love of the Irish Setter that brings our club together. Through our dogs, lifelong friendships are formed, knowledge is shared, newcomers are welcomed, and the traditions of this remarkable breed continue from one generation to the next.
Our Club Today
Today, the Irish Setter Club of Southern California continues to bring together people who share an appreciation and love for the Irish Setter. Our members include longtime owners, exhibitors, breeders, performance enthusiasts and those who simply enjoy sharing their lives with this wonderful breed.
We gather throughout the year for club activities and events, and we also meet via Zoom, making it easier for members throughout Southern California and beyond to stay involved and connected.
Our club hosts and supports specialty shows and other activities while providing opportunities for members to share knowledge, celebrate one another’s accomplishments and enjoy the friendships that have always been an important part of ISCSC.
We welcome those who share our enthusiasm for Irish Setters and encourage members both new and longtime to participate, contribute ideas and be part of the future of our club.
Looking Toward Our Centennial
In 2029, the Irish Setter Club of Southern California will celebrate an extraordinary milestone: our 100th anniversary.
From three Irish Setter enthusiasts who came together in 1929 to the generations of members and dogs who have followed, our club has nearly a century of history to celebrate.
Plans are already underway for a very special centennial celebration honoring the Irish Setters, people, friendships and traditions that have shaped ISCSC over the past 100 years.
We look forward to celebrating this remarkable milestone together and creating the next chapter in the history of the Irish Setter Club of Southern California.
